Sugarcane is no cane
Sugarcane does not claim
To be from a tropical plain
Sugarcane is a giant Dane

Who was born in Maine
And then migrated to Spain
On a very humid day in Maine
When there was no rain

Come Come Come Sugarcane
Sugarcane won't budge
Sugarcane will not fudge
Sugarcane looked perplex

As if the Dane was sore vex
Ven Ven Sugarcane Ven ven
The Dane wagged its tail
Alert and happy as a whale

The Dane from Maine
Learnt Spanish
From a parrot in Spain
And now barks in fluent Spanish

Its Maine accent had vanished
And the Dane comprehends only Spanish
Sombrero Sombrero
Sugarcane dashed to get its hat

Out goes the Dane from Maine
Decked in its sombrero in Spain
Where ever Sugarcane went
People gathered to watch

The Dane from Maine
That barks like a Dane from Spain
Fluent as a parrot from Spain
Without an accent from Maine”
