Sad Savages

“Sad Savages by Maisie Aletha Smikle

Savages make selfish deals
They claim what they steal
Pay a penny for steel
And feast at every meal

The more they have
The more they brag
They slaughtered the hogs
And took their sheltered sty

Let the hogs live in the sky
My oh my
For indeed it is hog heaven
We have plundered till the clock struck eleven

Celebrate we must on the eleventh of the eleven
Every year till half past seven
For we have chased elephants from their habitat
Where they once freely roam is now our home

Savages fortify barricades and borders
Wishing the world would stop turning and refrain from gathering
Afraid that what goes around
Will some day rotate back around to them

Savages spy from the steeple
Looking lurking and listening always suspecting
For they have observed
To expect what they served

Never at ease are the savages
Always jumpy anticipating the worst for others
And the best for themselves
Pointing always away from themselves”

John

“John by Maisie Aletha Smikle

John the baptizer
Son of Liza
Ate no appetizer
And had nothing with fertilizer

Chosen to lead
He took heed
Filled with glory
He told the story

To get a flannel
They disrobe a camel
John wore it's skin
To keep warm within

While they lavish in castles
And ate lambs laced with honey
John lived among bristles
Eating locusts glazed with honey

John had no land
Nor a band
He kept no herd
Nor flocks of bird

Called he was indeed
None could do his deed
And keep up to speed
Paving the way to lead

John had no money
But he had honey
John used a staff
And kept no arms

God's enemies hated John
He threatened their insidious wrong
John called out the wretched
For light to expose their throng

Indeed none could do the deed of John
Who took martyrdom
For the Kingdom
Then ascended for his mission on earth was done”
