Ocean

“Ocean by Maisie Aletha Smikle

Lovely beautiful blue ocean
From whence did you come?
The earth you have graced
Creatures you have embraced

A home you have been to many
The great black whale
Fishes and eels
Corals and reefs

Oh from whence did you come?
Oh great vast wide ocean
Enough raindrops could not fill the ocean’s basin
Neither melted snow or hail

From whence did all the salt come?
To season water so vast
Just in the right portion
Neither tasteless or too salty

Water that never depletes
Dissipate or evaporate
Since the world began
Water that is always tasty

No matter the amount
Of tasteless crystal raindrops
That is added to the ocean’s wide basin
It’s always seasoned just right

Not too salty
Not too tasteless
Indeed our Creator is the best
Always working...Keeping the ocean at it's best”

Thanks

“Thanks by Maisie Aletha Smikle

Giving thanks need no ranks
From the dinosaurs to the ants
Thanks for all
Great and small

Giving thanks is an everyday affair
Even though Thanksgiving comes but once a year
A thank you we must share
Giving thanks for what is dear

Be it far
Or be it near
Thanks for things present
Even though you may receive no presents

Thanks for the past
Oh Lord how time goes by fast
Thanks for the future
For indeed we have been given nature

Water that rains from up above
Springs that emerge from the rocks beneath
To nourish and make all things flourish
Without which all would perish

Food that grows
Trees that bloom
Flowers that calm
And herbs for balm

Giving thanks may sometimes make you sad
If you recall something bad
Give thanks for all things good
And the times you have withstood”

Passionate Crucifix

“Passionate Crucifix by Maisie Aletha Smikle

I came for the lame
I came for the maim
I came for the dame
I came for all bearing no shame

I was loved
I was hated
I was envied
I was despised and chastised

I healed the sick
I resurrected the dead
I gave you my body
But yet you wanted my soul

My soul you cannot have
It belongs to my Father in Heaven
The pain I bore
I need no more

You hit me...You beat me
You arrested me without a charge
You drove nails in my body
And hang me tall for all to see

Oh the cruelty you have done to me
I bled from your lashes you inflicted
I gave you water when you thirst
But you gave me vinegar for my thirst

Oh how my soul doth burst
From the thorns you have stuck in my flesh
My body ached from your infliction
You have no affection

I said Father let thy will be done
I said angels do not come
I ordered the order of all things
I allowed you to crucify me

You are ruthless mean and unkind
I'd rather be with my Father in heaven
A thousand angels I will not call
Instead I will leave my ghost with you

I do not want to be in the flesh among you
Take my holy ghost if you please
Leave it if you please
The choice is yours to please

I could have called a thousand angels
But I would rather live with my heavenly Father
I will see you in Heaven
If my Father let you in

I will not remain with you in the flesh anymore
You are unkind ruthless and mean
You hammered nails in my flesh like wood
And cared not about the pain I withstood”

Pina Colada

“Pina Colada by Maisie Aletha Smikle

Pineapple shrubs
Coconut shrubs
Coconut dropped
Pineapple budged not

Coconut collided
Merge and integrated
Pineapple conceded
And both succeeded

Coconut collision
Pineapple integration
In total collaboration
Pina Colada emerge standing at attention

Pineapple
Roseapple
Starapple
Green apple

Red apple
Yellow apple
Eve gave Adam an apple
Adam ate the apple

The apple seed got stuck
Adam made no fuss
The apple seed grew
And became Adam's apple

Plant an apple tree
Plant an apple shrub
Plant once sow once
Reap for a lifetime”
