Waterfall
“Waterfall by Maisie Aletha Smikle
Soothing water gushing from the rocks
Hastens to meet the rivers and streams
That meet in the ocean deep
Never to reach a mountain peak
Soft mist rises from the lunging gush
As crystal water plunges down in a rush
Carried by the gentle breeze
Like a balm it calms the soul with ease
It dims the heat and cools the air
Trickles on the grassy meadow
And on the sand beneath
Cooling pebbles for your feet
As you walk the sandy shore
Inhaling cool mist as you tour
And watch the little birds soar
Chirping and singing like never before
Beautiful waterfall
So splendid and so tall
Climb to the top
And view the backdrop
Mountains elegantly towering
Over hills and plains beneath
Casting shadows
On lush green meadows
Crystal clear water drops
Naturally pure to the very last drop
Nature is kind nature is fine
Nature is undoubtedly divine”

Christmas
“Christmas by Maisie Aletha Smikle
Smiles gifts and laughter fill the air
Families so dear
Gather and share
Love and happy cheer
Mary gave birth to Christ Jesus
Gloriously famed is He
People are happy on His birthday
They meet to celebrate this day
On Christ's birthday
There were gifts of myrrh
Frankincense and gold
Celebrating His birth that was foretold
Christmas day is Christ’s birthday
Once a year
Christ is cheered
For coming into the world
Woes and foes
Are forgotten
And joy and peace
Are release
Lights blink
Twinkle twinkle
Beckoning good wishes
To come in
Snow falling on roof tops
Cookies cooling on stove tops
Smoke whistling from the chimneys
Calling out to Santa on his sleigh
Don't come down tonight
It is frosty as frost bite
If you come down the chimney
You will be toasty as a toast
So on and on Santa goes
Round and round the globe
Delivering good wishes and happy cheers
And thanking God for Christ’s birth”

The Leaf
“The Leaf by Maisie Aletha Smikle
Am sometimes green
Am sometimes yellow
Am sometimes brown
And sometimes black
I shade the Amazon
I cushion the ground
I feed hungry mouths
And feed the soil
Am kind always giving
Never asking anything in return
I retain dew to keep you cool
I excrete oxygen so you may breathe
I give
I only give
I am a giver
A tree with all its branches is naked without me
I clothe the tree to hide its shame
In shades of green
In shades of yellow
And many shades in between
In Spring I bloom
In Summer am scorch
In Winter I freeze
In the Fall I fall to crown the surface of the ground
My aim is to please
I bloom to give you joy
Am scorched so that I may fall
To moisten the soil and make it fertile
To cushion the ground
For another round
Always giving
Never taking
Tree branches unclothe
Naked without their leaves
Bare ground exposed
Without unfallen leaves
Compelling you to leave
Leaves sustain and leaves maintain
Leaves leave you living
Always giving while taking nothing”

Sunrise Sunset
“Sunrise Sunset by Maisie Aletha Smikle
Dusk or Dawn
Morning or Evening
Night or Noon
Summer or Winter
The sun is at its best
And never takes a rest
Delivering Fahrenheit and Kilowatt
No matter what
From the beginning of time
Till the end of time
The sun shines
Astoundingly divine
It captivates your mind
Heat like a ball of fire
That neither consumes or depletes
And requires no ignition
From whence does this ball of fire come
Extending in the universe
Shining from the sky
Hotter than volcanic lava
Nested up above
Stronger than gravity
The sun stands
Untouchable...
Unanchored....
Setting not the heavens or the skies ablaze
Ever kindled and never unkindled
Its fiery furnace requires no wood
Its fiery furnace requires no fuel
It cannot be extinguish
It requires not human intervention
Nor interruption
Sunrise or Sunset
The sun never takes a rest
Nighttime or noontime
The sun withstands the test of time
Ever shining
Ever sending its warmth
To a globe that has grown cold
To melt the frigid hearts of an ice cold nation”

Bedtime
“Bedtime by Maisie Aletha Smikle https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/10479784
Tick tock tick tock
Says my bunny clock
It's half past nine o’clock
The ship has already dock
It's bedtime
It's time to unwind
And go to bed
My mommy said
So I take my bath
And brush my teeth
With a night cap over my hair
I hop into my night gown
Kneel down
Bow my head
And clasp my hands
To pray
Dear Lord You keep me when am awake
Please keep me while I sleep
Mommy comes in and peek
Picks me up and tucks me in
Dims the light
Kiss me goodnight
Read a story
And sings me a happy lullaby
Mommy reads the story of a sheep
That didn't want to sleep
So the shepherd counted flocks
Till it was way past ten o’clock
And the sheep fell fast asleep
Mommy sings a lullaby
My little one my sweet little one
Your warm bed beckons
Sweet peaceful sleep
And happy lovely dreams
Goodnight sunshine I love you dearly
Sleep tight see you in the morning light”
